Caring for PU leather, so it lasts the years

It asks less than hide and rewards the same attention.

A coated band is a simple thing. It keeps its shape and its finish for years, provided nothing is left sitting on the surface between walks.

After a wet walk

Wipe the band with a cloth wrung out in cool water, then let it dry flat and away from a radiator. Heat is what cracks a coated surface, not water.

Once a month

A thin layer of neutral conditioner on the outside keeps the finish supple. Keep it off the stitching and away from the engraved plate.

What to avoid

  • Bleach, alcohol and household sprays.

  • A washing machine, on any cycle.

  • Leaving it in a hot car between walks.

  • Hanging it by the D-ring to dry.

Salt from winter roads should come off the same day. Left overnight, it works into the coating at the edges, which are the places the band flexes most.

The engraved plate needs nothing at all. The cut is in the metal, and it will outlast the band that holds it.
